The heart of the summer, which includes the last days of July and the early part of August, is known as the “Dog Days.” The meaning of this phrase has been lost to time through our withering sense of all that is spiritual. Most people today assume that it is an idiom related to an uncomfortable state of inertia that we feel with the effects of continuous hot weather.
